New year, new trends?! No thanks! The patent skirt trend is still in full effect and my obsession with it is thriving, even in the chillier winter months. Something about the crisp, grey weather seems to pair perfectly with the sleek sheen of a patent skirt.. although I wouldn’t recommend bare legs if you’re on the East Coast! Instead, try keeping warm with opaque black tights. Even thermal leggings will do the trick and look on point with the right pair of boots. I always try to balance the chic vibe of a patent skirt with a casual tee or knitted sweater because I think looking effortlessly pulled together is a huge key to successful styling. At the end of the day, I’d always rather be the chick who’s too dressed down for the party than too dressed up. With that said, for a night out, a patent skirt would look super sexy with a tight black turtleneck or sheer long sleeved bodysuit or blouse like the one I rocked for my New Year’s eve outfit, which you can check out and shop at a crazy sale price here.
I literally haven’t worn a skirt during the day unless I was playing a character on TV since I was a kid and since falling in love with this trend, it’s the first thing I want to put on when I get ready for the day. It is a stand out piece so sadly, wearing it every day would be a tad much but it is such a versatile piece to base different looks off of. Your patent skirt can be the staple item for all sorts of vibes from day to night or work to errands and of course, a glam night out! Whether you wear it with a pair of thigh high boots or sneakers, it’s a great basic that steps any look up a few style notches from a boring ol’ pair of jeans. Scroll through my shoppable selects below to see all of my favorite traditional and not-so-traditional patent skirts as well as similar outfit items to recreate my look!
